WriterStack exists because most AI writing tool review sites are transparently affiliate-first — they rank every tool 4.5–5 stars and recommend whichever pays the highest commission. We built WriterStack to do the opposite: rank tools by real output quality, measured on identical tasks, by a named reviewer who actually used the product.

What we do

We test AI writing tools on five standardised writing tasks: a 200-word blog introduction, an email subject line, a Facebook ad headline, a product description, and a LinkedIn caption. Every tool gets the same prompt on the same day. The output is scored on quality, relevance, tone, originality, and editing required. Those scores — not affiliate commission rates — determine our rankings.

We also write in-depth comparison pages, use-case guides, and roundups for specific audiences (bloggers, marketers, beginners). All content is written by a named author who has personally tested the tools described.

How we make money

WriterStack uses affiliate links. When you click a link to a tool and purchase a subscription, we earn a commission — at no extra cost to you. We disclose this prominently on every page that contains affiliate links.

Our rankings are determined entirely by test scores. Tools with higher-paying affiliate programs do not receive higher ratings. We include tools in our comparisons regardless of whether they have an affiliate program (Jasper AI's individual program is closed — we still review it because it's a major tool people search for).

Our testing methodology

Every tool is tested on the same five writing tasks. Scoring is done blind — the reviewer scores the output without knowing which tool produced it until after scoring is complete. Full details are on our methodology page.
